ANYbotics ANYmal X
Explosion-protected version of ANYbotics' inspection quadruped, unveiled in March 2022 with PETRONAS and launched as a product in October 2026. According to ANYbotics, Bureau Veritas issued an ATEX EU-type examination certificate for Zones 1 and 2, Gas Group IIB, temperature class T4 and Category 2G; IECEx certification for the series will come with first production. It is not intended for Zone 0, dust atmospheres or IIC gases such as hydrogen or acetylene.

What it does, and on what evidence
Five mandatory fields on every sheet. A product page proves neither commercial availability nor full autonomy: here we separate what has been documented from what is announced.
- 1 · Task
- Run routine inspection rounds in potentially explosive-atmosphere zones of oil, gas and chemical plants: instrument readings, thermography, acoustic leak detection and gas measurement, logging each reading to its asset.
- 2 · Autonomy by task
Does on its own
According to the maker, it autonomously walks routes with steep stairs and narrow walkways without facility modifications, docks itself to its charging station and can continue stored missions offline.
A person steps in
Missions are scheduled in the Shift platform or from the customer's systems and an operator follows them from a control room; at Valhall its data were integrated to enable operation from onshore. The charging dock and nitrogen refilling stay outside the hazardous area. How often a person intervenes has not been published.[Unite.AI, 2026][Bureau Veritas, 2023][Robotics & Automation News, 2023]
- 3 · Strongest evidence
Pilot2026-10-27
According to ANYbotics, BP, Equinor, Shell, PETRONAS, Petrobras, BASF and SLB have tested it since 2023 in “hundreds” of onshore and offshore missions in its early access programme; Aker BP tested it on two decks of the Valhall platform (70 inspection points, 2023). Deliveries to customers such as Equinor and DSM-Firmenich began in October 2026; no operating data from those units have been published yet.[World Pipelines, 2026][Robotics & Automation News, 2023]
- 4 · Access
- Commercial product
Shipping to customers since 27 October 2026. Price not published: ANYbotics defines routes and goals with each customer and then makes an offer.
- 5 · Lifecycle
- Current generation
In 2022 ANYbotics announced IECEx and ATEX approval for Zone 1 and Bureau Veritas announced an IECEx certification in 2023; for the 2026 production version, ANYbotics says the IECEx certificate requires an audit of the series production line and will come with first production.
