Dexterity Mech
Mobile manipulator with two arms (built by Kawasaki, with HIWIN components) on a base with four steerable wheels, unveiled in March 2025 for truck loading. Its software combines vision, depth and touch to decide where to place each parcel. FedEx has trialled it for trailer loading and in July 2026 announced its expansion to the Hagerstown hub (Maryland), without publishing unit numbers or results.

What it does, and on what evidence
Five mandatory fields on every sheet. A product page proves neither commercial availability nor full autonomy: here we separate what has been documented from what is announced.
- 1 · Task
- Load parcel trailers with randomly sized boxes, building tight, stable walls; the maker also offers it for unloading, palletizing and depalletizing.
- 2 · Autonomy by task
Does on its own
According to the maker, it drives autonomously to the workstation and starts loading “with the press of a button”; it decides in real time where and how to place each parcel by combining vision, depth and touch, with no reprogramming for each load.
A person steps in
One associate can manage and monitor up to 10 Mechs at once, according to the maker. How often a person intervenes, or whether teleoperation or remote assistance is used, has not been published.[The Robot Report, 2025][Dexterity, 2026]
- 3 · Strongest evidence
Pilot2026-07-30
FedEx and Dexterity, who unveiled their trailer loader in 2023, announced in July 2026 the expansion of Mech systems to the Hagerstown hub, beyond the pilot site used to validate them, and describe it as production at larger scale. At FedEx's 2026 Investor Day Mech loaded a trailer in a demonstration. No unit counts, operating hours or metrics have been published.[Dexterity, 2026][Dexterity]
- 4 · Access
- Commercial product
At launch, Dexterity declared it available to its industrial and enterprise customers for truck loading. There is no public price: the maker sells it as a solution and qualifies price and performance after a consultation.
